The ‘Wildlives’ series is designed for students aged eleven to fourteen. The series relates to science at key stage three, living things in their environment. There are five sections in total, each relating to a local habitat – namely: farm, forest, seaside, town and wetland. These habitats have been chosen for ease of access. Subjects, projects and materials all relate to the everyday environment.

Each section comprises ten activities with high quality illustrations, work sheets, information sheets, questionnaires and quizzes. They are designed to provoke enquiry and further investigation. The series is adaptable and flexible. Each activity may be used as a stand alone lesson or as part of a continuing investigation. Answers and comprehensive teacher’s notes are provided. The series may be used by stand in teachers with limited experience of the subject. Both the brighter students and those of lower ability are catered for. Ample opportunity is provided for field studies and practical projects. Activities may be completed in one lesson or form the basis of an on going practical project. There are opportunities for linking to other areas of the curriculum such as English, art and design, design and technology, history, geography, I.T., citizenship and personal development.

Students will learn about structure, growth and development, adaptation and behaviour, niche in the food chain, habitat and migration as well as examining issues such as water use and conservation.

Methods of teaching include individual, pairs and small groups and whole class activities. Worksheets, questionnaires and surveys may be set as homework.
