The WJEC introduction of an Entry Level Drama qualification was, and is, highly significant. Drama, at its best, is one of the truly inclusive subjects. Every pupil can achieve something, gain something from Drama. So the addition of this new level re-opens the possibilities for many students.
This workbook is intended to be used by Drama specialists as ‘aide memoire’ or by non-specialist as a guide and helpmeet.
Ideally the course will occupy at least two hours per week over 2 years (or more realistically, over 5 terms.) It is deliverable in less time but that does not really allow for the full potential growth of students through the work.
There are in-built assessment points. Many of the exercises can be repeated, as tests, to help track progress.
Suggested Pro Forma Record Sheets are included. These feed straight into the Board’s own recording documentation.
Drama can be intimidating for both Students and Teachers who are new to it. It is imperative for everyone involved to recognise that it is a pleasant, cumulative, developmental and disciplined system. As the course progresses, it is vital for each student to understand every definition or explanation that is given.
