The series begins with the Celtic bedrock and concentrates on the impact of the Middle Eastern cultures from the fertile crescent. Native European civilisations are dealt with in more detail. The momentous influence of the Roman Empire is traced through Byzantine, Carolingian and the Holy Roman Empires, and there is special consideration of the impact of Christianity and Islam. The series ends with the Renaissance.
The maps and diagrams will form an historic framework on which the teacher can hang any specialisations in the field of European Studies.
