The Key Objectives Tracker CD-ROM has been developed to assist teachers in their day-to-day tasks of planning, assessing, target setting and reporting. As teachers, we are being asked more and more to identify those students who are gifted and talented or who need extra support, mentoring etc. In recent times we are also being advised that, when 'marking' students work, we should try to resist the temptations of giving 'marks out of'. A mark out of 10, for example, gives little indication of the effort put in to the work and/or the difficulty of the work. Students respond better if they are given a written/verbal comment along with a (negotiated if necessary) 'traffic light' stamp/sticker etc. indicating how well they have understood a concept.
Recording using the Key Objectives Tracker CD-ROM allows any teacher to record success ratings in mark book form. It instantly assists any class teacher when trying to set future targets for the group and/or individual students. It gives clear evidence of progress or slippage and makes report writing more informed. Because an EXCEL file is used, it can be tailored to your particular needs. The key objectives for year 7, 8 and 9 Mathematics is included as an example. The tracker contains some simple macros, one to sort by name order, one to sort the class into rank order, one to print the sheet and one for colour shading.
