The Design & Technology Resource Pack is a flexible photocopiable resource containing information sheets, worksheets and practical activities which form the basis of each of the following topics:

• Mechanisms
• Forces
• Structures
• Graphics

The topics covered in the pack are all relevant to the GCSE Resistant Materials examination. Each of the topics can be used in isolation or as support sheets which can be used alongside practical activities set by teachers.

Practical activities included in the pack are:

• Making a Motion Board
• Making a Wooden Mechanical Toy
• Making a CAM Model
• Experimenting with Compression and Tension
• Experimenting with Triangulation

The pack is targeted at National Curriculum Levels 3 and 4 - however teachers could use their professional judgement to encourage more able pupils to reach Level 5 by suggesting a range of extension activities. A sheet on Tools and Machines also addresses the issue of workshop safety.
