Pack C1 - Norman Warrior Kings

This series provides, in easily digestible stages, the political background, main events and their consequences, military, economic and dynastic of the Norman period.

The sheets on the Bayeux Tapestry, England under Norman rule, the Feudal system and Doomsday Survey deal with the crucial issues of the reign of William I.

The pictorial story 'The Conqueror's Sons' covers the main events from the reign of William II up to the accession of Henry I. The strip cartoon method highlights each event and provides students with an opportunity to write their own version of events using the pictures as guides. The sheets on the White Ship Disaster and on the Civil War between Stephen and Matilda can be used in the same way.

The sheets on Hereward the Wake, Stone from Normandy and William I summoning the Great Council may be used as short 'filler' sessions or homework - where a few sentences based on observation of the picture, imagination, and a little guidance from the teacher could lead to additional pages in the pupil's portfolio.

The sheet 'Achievements of William I' gathers this topic together and provides an opportunity to consider the personality of the king and his wife.
