This material has been produced to help test pupils' mental arithmetic skills. The tests will be particularly suitable for Special Needs students in secondary school. It aims to cover a number of key skills and is divided into four different sections.

The first three sections have their own separate levels of tests, with section A being the easier through to Section C being the most difficult. Each of these sections has six tests covering a range of mental skills. There are twenty questions in each test. These questions are arranged into five, ten and fifteen seconds. In addition, a pupil sheet is available for recording answers. Also, included in Section D, are individual and group record sheets.

It is not essential that every child or class complete each test. It may be that they would be best concentrating on only one section for an extended period or it may be more appropriate to do some tests from each section to discover what would be the appropriate level. Most importantly, it will prove invaluable in helping the class teacher to identify specific areas of strengths and weaknesses to be worked on in the classroom or and home.
