The aim of these worksheets is to present ideas which are of use across Key Stages 2/4 inclusive and which can be developed accordingly, leading to GCSE studies and coursework. The worksheets are compatible with all exam boards including WJEC and AQA. It is intended that the ideas are used as a starting point for further work and can also be used in cross-curricular activities.

For example, a pupil working on a newspaper assignment at KS2 may simply pair up headlines with an article and then write a very simplistic opening paragraph for the main article. At KS3 the pupil may develop the work by writing several articles with the same heading but using different writing styles, reflecting the different newspaper styles, having studied a number of newspapers to appreciate these differences. By KS4 and GCSE level this could lead to a project comparing different newspapers for language, style, content and audience.

The worksheet ideas are therefore useful for all stages and all abilities, offering a differentiated approach throughout. Task 1 will form the starter task to each medium or genre, the levels of difficulty increasing with each of the tasks suggested.

Each medium can be studied independently or form a collective project. These projects may include several different media and several different genres within each medium.
