This resource is targeted at pupils aged between 11 and 14 years of age although the recipes can be used and adapted to other age groups. It aims to equip them with the knowledge and understanding that healthy eating can be tasty, fun to make and provide a framework to lead a healthy life, avoid obesity and stay within a healthy weight range. Many young people do not know how to cook and often prefer easy, fast food, which usually contains high levels of calories, hidden salt, sugar and saturated fat. From 2011 all maintained schools will be required to deliver compulsory food technology in a bid to teach children how to cook healthy food and thus avoid the possibility of becoming overweight, obese and even ill in later life and to give these children who are already obese the chance to change their lifestyle. I have written this unit of work in the hope of inspiring pupils to make healthy choices and to enjoy using healthy, colourful ingredients to make delicious meals. The resource contains an introduction to healthy eating exploring the five main food, specific set tasks, plus a star chart for evaluation. The main part of the resource deals directly with healthy eating providing twenty-four delicious, easy recipes – six for breakfast, six for lunch, three are no cook dishes, especially designed for schools without specialist food technology equipment – often needing just a kettle or microwave, and three are cooked products. Each receipe has an introduction, a list of equipment needed, ingredients, method, key words and an evaluation exercise.

Once purchased, the CD can be freely copied and networked throughout the school.
