Religion and relationships is a set of twelve, highly engaging and thought provoking PowerPoint presentations, written for GCSE Religious Studies (WJEC, RS Syllabus B), which place a focus on the place of personal relationships in religious observance. They have been written by a teacher and Head of Religious Studies (OFSTED 2010) and have, according to pupil voice surveys in the school where they have been trialled, been instrumental in pupils of all abilities grading RS lessons as both highly ‘enjoyable’ and ‘accessible’. Issues such as marriage, chastity and divorce, love, commitment and responsibility, sex before marriage, chastity, adultery, and same sex relationships are discussed from a Christian and Islamic perspective, as well as from a dispassionate secular view. Each PowerPoint is designed to be taught in a single lesson (1 hour) and includes key questions, learning objectives and outcomes, an AFL focus, think points, research opportunities, exam style questions, relevant statistics and colourful, well chosen images: photos, cartoons and symbols, which demand the attention as well as supporting the ideas being introduced. There are also embedded hyperlinks to other sites to support learning as well as YouTube clips which will promote further discussion. Quite simply OFSTED will love them!
