It is for people who see the value of talk in the classroom and realise that it needs more considered thought. This initial volume offers a theoretical background to different types of talk and suggests ways of grouping students. Assessment for Learning techniques underpin the Frameworks, encouraging thinking skills, the explicit use of criteria as well as peer and self assessment. With every activity students are expected to use criteria to monitor and evaluate their talk. The material has been specifically designed for use in School or Departmental INSET in order to help other teachers understand the varieties of talk that can be employed in the classroom.
