Designed by an experienced teacher, and based on a wide range of learning styles, this pack offers materials which are both 'do-able' and fun! The task sheets provide a range of activities that can be used when a more active lesson is not possible- for example during very poor weather, when a colleague is unwell, or possibly when a theory lesson is necessary.
Based on forty fill-in A4 sheets, and intended to offer tasks which can be approached at a variety of levels the materials provide a series of interesting activities which will engage and stimulate young people on topics related to sports and games.
The materials can create stimulating debate, discussion and worthwhile lessons. Tasks are clear and straightforward and allow teachers to begin with little preparation when time is short or circumstances prevent the normal planning.
Alternatively the materials could be integrated as part of a long-term plan to teach PE theory and sports related issues for classroom based lessons, or could be adapted as homework activities. Suitable for pupils aged 11-16.
Topics include literacy and wordpower development tasks on sports and games, items on sport in the media, fantasy teams, silhouette recognition tasks, poster design tasks, fun quizzes, crosswords, wordsearches and problem solving games alongside a wide range of other items.
Teachers will be able to develop the themes raised by the sheets and support a wide range of follow up activities to suit their own circumstances and schemes of work or needs.People who bought this item also bought:
The Drugs File
Subject: Health Education
Age Group: 11 - 14
Order Number: 3053
There is a lot myth surrounding drug taking and the misuse of drugs. On the street children will hear a lot about the attractions of various drugs, deliberate misinformation peddled by pushers, dealers and suppliers seeking a new source of income, misinformation already assimilated by their peers, then contrasting this with conflicting information provided by parents, teachers and carers. Some high profile personalities and teenage icons promote a glamorous lifestyle surrounding drugs and substances misuse, whilst 'authority' tries to warn of the dangers (sometimes!). This booklet inclines towards presenting facts and promoting the disadvantageous of a drugs habit, to even out 'street' advice. Misuse is risky, and the risks are clearly stated here.
Twenty drugs, (legal and illegal), that are commonly open to misuse are covered, in A4 format for ease of photocopying, providing facts, comments and questions for pupils to answer. There are also 'key-word' wordsearches to accompany every worksheet. Information sheets cover the law and the penalties that can be applied for possession and/or supply, and general points that may be used to stimulate discussion.
Teachers have the choice of running through the worksheets in the order that they are presented, as a standalone course, or they can selective and use the worksheets to support other courses and schemes. The worksheets are suitable for both keystage 3 and keystage 4 pupils. They can also be used as extension tasks or homework. Each page can stand-alone and can be easily photocopied. There is also a blank grid for pupils to design their own wordsearch, and a change for them to design a poster warning of some of the dangers of drug misuse.
There are conflicting statements about drugs even within the resources available to schools. All comment, opinions and facts used in this publication draw upon the latest available information from reliable and established resources.find out more
STDs The Facts
Subject: Health Education
Age Group: 11 - 14
Order Number: 3043
STDs - The Facts is an Australian made film written and presented by practicing doctors to give a teenage audience practical advice on the types of sexually transmitted diseases that exist, their symptoms and medical approaches to curing or containing them. It includes information on both bacterial and virus diseases and methods of prevention. The language chosen whilst scientific in nature, is nonetheless easily accessible to the target audience.
It is ideal for use in PSHE or Science Lessons with a sex education focus. It is suitable for use with pupils across the secondary age range and could even be used with sixth form pupils.
The information presented in the film is backed up by a workbook: STDs - The Facts, which not only tests comprehension of the material presented in the film, but also provides activities to test pupil's prior knowledge, before watching the film, and memory retrieval, extension and application of that knowledge, after watching the film. The 20 worksheets are accompanied by teacher's notes, which together form a self supportive scheme of work.
Both the film and the workbook have been trialed in classrooms by practising teachers and have been found to be 'highly successful'.
