As Technology is a specialised practical subject, this teaching material has been developed to provide Technology Departments with some easy-to-use and stand alone lesson plans which may be especially useful when a member of staff is absent and cover work is required. These lesson plans offer quality, specialised work for staff who are not qualified as Technology teachers and have little or no knowledge of the subject area. They could also be part of normal lesson plans for 11-14 year olds and possibly for 14-16 year olds. This material has been developed to accommodate unforeseen and urgent situations that may arise in a hectic department. Most importantly, the material has been designed for a wide range of abilities and is suitable for both boys and girls. These topics concentrate on the formulation of the design process in preparation for the practical application of the products.

Each project has a full set of photocopiable worksheets that give clear instructions to staff as to how to administer the material, together with discussion points and a list of the resources required. The students' worksheets set out the brief/topic together with a format showing how this is to be achieved successfully. All the sheets contained in these projects are based on Technology topics and are relevant to current education policies. The material has been designed with the knowledge that not all lessons are allocated the same amount of time, therefore, the work set can accommodate this with various types of extension work. The material could provide a valuable contribution to the students' experiences in hard technology.
