This material has been developed to provide cover materials for Design and Technology lessons. The range of worksheets has been designed with the non-specialist teacher in mind. Work includes a wide variety of design challenges suitable for 11 and 12 year old students.

The set of worksheets covers 30 topics as varied as: Your Perfect Bedroom, a Multi-purpose Hat, Torch Giveaway, the Circus Train, Assault Course and many others. All the topics provide at least one self-contained design problem. Each sheet contains clear notes and illustrations to inspire and challenge the class.

Needing only A4 paper, pencil, ruler and coloured pencils, each unit of work provides stimulus to help students create original and exciting design work. Extra sheets of notes are included where appropriate to provide extension work possibilities.

Some topics are accompanied by sheets of questions, to help stimulate group discussion. With others, nets and template sheets are provided to guide and structure the design outcomes. Other topics could easily be extended to include model making and prototype work if time allows.

These worksheets have been used successfully in lessons for many years. They quickly solve the problem of what activity to set a group if the regular technology teacher is absent, and where the students cannot be left to do their normal practical work. All the design challenges allow for imaginative solutions and provide opportunities to create some good quality graphics work.
