The material has been developed to help students following both GCSE and the new First and National Certificate courses in Leisure, Travel and Tourism, and is aimed at 14-18 year olds. The resource consists of a CD-ROM, which autoplays when inserted into a computer disk drive. No installation of software is required and the CD will work with any PC operating Windows 98 or later versions of Windows.
The publication is intended for teachers to use in front of a class. There are eight separate slide shows, which contain text, graphics, photos and video clips. The shows can be advanced by clicking the mouse or pressing the space bar. Also on the CD is a suggested script, which teachers may choose to follow, if they wish, when making the presentation. It would also be possible for students to view the shows individually, to help with an assignment.
The eight topics covered are: Leisure Activities, Leisure Organisations, Leisure Services, Leisure Choices, Travel Activities, Travel Organisations. Travel Services, Travel Choices.
The content makes reference to aspects of everyday life which will interest young people, and stimulate discussion. It is designed primarily as an arresting introduction to each of the eight topics, which could then be followed by more in-depth coverage from the teacher. The idea is to grab the attention of the students first, before getting into detailed study.
Once purchased the CD can be freely copied and networked throughout the school.
