Online Catalogue | Secondary 14 - 16 | History | An Introduction to Key Historical Concepts CD-ROM
Subject: HistoryLevel: SecondaryAge Group: 14-16Order Number: 7153
A sequence of lessons designed to introduce students to key concepts in history. The specific key historical concepts outlined by the national curriculum are chronological understanding, cause and consequence, continuity and change, diversity, significance and interpretations. The idea is that history teaches lots of key skills but these concepts are specific to the subject. The new Key Stage 3 curriculum proposes that teachers focus more on skills and themes so this introductory unit is designed to imbue these concepts in students via a series of fun, interesting and challenging lessons. All PowerPoint presentations are detailed and carefully designed to provide lots of teaching and learning opportunities which actively engage students. The entire lesson sequence is based around active learning strategies and is a great way to introduce students at key stage 3 into the specific concepts that make history a unique and engaging subject. Once completed students will have a much better understanding of the key concepts that continuously arise within the subject and all subsequent teaching and learning can be focused on these concepts when the opportunities arise. In addition there are two presentations based on ‘What is History?’ and ‘Key Themes in History’. There is also a proposed scheme of work and wall display cards so that the key concepts can constantly be referred to and visually reinforced throughout all key stages of study in history. Requires a projector and laptop/pc to deliver to classes.
Once purchased, the CD can be freely copied and networked throughout the school.
