Differentiation is often a real issue within the classroom and so is getting the kids engaged and enthused. This booklet covers these two problems by providing loads of great teaching techniques and methods with an extensive range of differentiation strategies for all abilities. The booklet contains a huge range of ideas that can be applied with flexibility to any areas and themes taught within history.

The aim of the booklet is to assist with two key pedagogical elements:

1. Examples of active learning in history, students actively engage in a range of learning styles, visual, auditory and kinaesthetic to elicit higher-order understanding.
2. Differentiation within active learning tasks, the adaptation and extension of tasks to extend learning opportunities for both gifted and talented students and SEN students.

The active learning tasks within are all identified with an aim, method, suggested utility, ways in which to consolidate and develop the task and ways in which differentiation strategies can be pursued. All the activities can be easily and naturally complemented by the teacher’s own strengths and use of timings, pitch, pace and rigour depending on the individuals involved. All activities have been practised within the classroom environment and have been met with a great degree of enthusiasm and success on behalf of the students. This is a great resource to disseminate among peers to create variation and higher achievement within the context of history lessons.
